Other than religious imagery, Santa Claus is probably the most widely recognized image of the Christmas season. That’s part of what makes him so important and valuable when it comes to collecting for charity. People see Santa and they want to hug him, tell him what they want for Christmas, and offer money, time, or other help to whatever cause he’s supporting. If Santa is supporting it, how can it be wrong? It’s very important that you pay close attention to what the person dressed as Santa is trying to get donations for, though, because some charities are much better at really helping people than others are.

If you’re not sure whether you want to give, you shouldn’t feel obligated. You don’t have to give any money (or anything else) to a charity you don’t agree with, don’t believe in, or don’t trust and feel comfortable with. It’s entirely up to you, and that’s as it should be. However, if you’re interested in giving to charity you shouldn’t assume that any particular charity is good or bad. Do your research on the charities that you’re considering, so you can make the right choice as to whether you want to give to them.

Santa might be persuasive, but that doesn’t mean you’re required to give in. Instead, be your own person and make sure that you’re picking the right charity or charities to give to. When you do that, you can really feel good about what you’re doing and how you’re helping people, and you won’t feel like you gave your money to a cause that you really didn’t care for or actually weren’t that interested in. When you give of your time and your money to causes and charities that you really believe in, it makes you feel much better about yourself and life in general.
