If you’ve been to the mall or any large store around the Christmas season, you’ve probably noticed at least one tree that has paper ornaments on it. On those ornaments are the names of children who don’t have much for the holidays. Their parents have very little money, and you can buy something for them, so they can celebrate the season. In recent years, these trees have shown up not just for children, but also for the elderly people in a particular community. While kids are important, so are older people – and a lot of people forget about them.
Many of these older people live in assisted living facilities and nursing homes, and they don’t have any family left. They also don’t have much money, and they don’t have a way to shop for what they need in a lot of cases. With that in mind, it can be important to get involved in giving gifts to the elderly during the holidays, instead of focusing solely on the children. When you take time for both children and the elderly, you give of yourself in a way that people are going to remember and appreciate for a long time to come.
Everyone likes to feel that someone values them or even cares that they exist and that they might need something in their life. You can give that feeling to a lot of people during the holiday season by providing small gifts for children who don’t have much and for elderly people who may have even less. Even if you don’t have much to offer financially, there can also be other ways that you can help. Simple things like giving your time to a charity as a volunteer can be a great way to help a lot of other people, and it costs very little.
