Giving Charity to Dogs in Animal Shelters

Although most people have good intentions when they donate money to charity, some see it as a way to help without having to see those in need because it makes them feel sad or guilty to see the plight of others. This is especially true when it comes to animal shelters.

For those who care about unwanted dogs in shelters who are unable to adopt, it can be disheartening for them to see all the dogs waiting for good homes. They can help in other ways, including making their stay more comfortable. Making dogs comfortable improves their disposition and helps them find their forever home.

Animal shelters may need specific items, but donating blankets, water bowls, toys, or leashes, helps animals by giving them comforts from home, until they go to a home of their own with a loving family.

Some shelters lack the volunteers needed to socialize with, play with, and walk the dogs. They also need help cleaning the dog kennels. Those that have experience with the large breeds of dogs can offer to help work with them if other shelter employees fear large dogs.

People, who love misunderstood breeds that get a bad reputation because of irresponsible owners, can offer to work with those dogs in the shelter. Experienced Pit Bull owners can offer to hold a fundraiser or an event that promotes the breed. Those who own a Rottweiler can talk to prospective adopters. They can also talk to shelter employees about ways to encourage owners to adopt the dogs that are hard to place in homes.

All of these things will help in addition to, or in place of, whatever amount of money you can afford to give to animal charities.
