Privacy

Privacy is an issue of major concern for consumers, businesses conducting electronic commerce, and the government.  This page provides information regarding privacy, trust and encryption.

Privacy Policy-10 Points Every company that maintains a Web site or collects personal information of any kind about its customers should establish an explicit privacy protection policy.
Internet Privacy Coalition The Internet Privacy Coalition promotes privacy and security on the Internet through widespread public availability of strong encryption and the relaxation of export controls on cryptography.
Online Privacy Alliance The Online Privacy Alliance is a diverse group of corporations and associations who have come together to introduce and promote business-wide actions that create an environment of trust and foster the protection of individuals' privacy online. Center for Democracy

The Center For Democracy and Technology is a non-profit public interest organization based in Washington, DC. CDT works for public policies that advance civil liberties and democratic values in new computer and communications technologies.
Privacy Specifications The World Wide Web Consortium 'W3C' published a draft proposal on May 19, 1998 called Platform for Privacy Preferences Syntax Specifications. It can be viewed and comments made to further the development of a standard for Privacy on the Internet. The consortium is made up of government, non-profits, and industry.
Internet Content Coalition A campaign to educate Internet users about content issues, particularly intellectual property concerns.
Electronic Privacy Info Center EPIC is a public interest research center in Washington, D.C. It was established in 1994 to focus public attention on emerging civil liberties issues and to protect privacy, the First Amendment, and constitutional values.
The Direct Marketing Association List of guidelines for developing an online privacy policy. Fill out a questionnaire about your company's privacy practices, and the site will create an online privacy notification statement to post on your site.
Global Internet Liberty Campaign There are no borders in cyberspace. WebTrust WebTrust certificate displayed on your Website after an examination by a licensed CPA or chartered accountant. According to the principles of the WebTrust program, these sites are periodically examined by a WebTrust licensed CPA to ensure compliance with the WebTrust principles, which include: Business Practices Disclosure, Transaction Integrity, Information Protection.
Electronic Frontier Foundation The Electronic Frontier Foundation is a non-profit organization working to protect privacy, free expression, and access to public resources and information online, and to promote responsibility in new media.
Encryption Policy Resource This site is dedicated to educating the public, press, and policy-makers about the importance of encryption and the need for meaningful reform of US encryption policy in a way that protects privacy and security on the global information infrastructure.
Americans for Computer Privacy A coalition of Americans from all walks of life that are concerned with computer privacy and the availability of encryption technology to protect privacy.
