Because so many people spend a significant amount of time on the Internet today, it gives them the opportunity to help the charities close to their heart. Whether you have personal web pages or a blog, or are a member of several of the most popular social networking sites, you can reach a number of people. You can share information about charities you feel are important, and encourage others to do the same. You can spread the word about your charity, either by telling about the work the charity does, or by explaining the best ways that others can help as well.

Gathering the information

Visit a facility belonging to your favorite charity and find out:

What they do

What they need

What people who want to help can do

Once you have gathered enough information about a particular charity, share that information with others you have contact with on the Internet.

Spreading the News

Share stories about the people, animals, or groups your charity helps

Talk about the wants and needs of those benefiting from the charity

Explain the ways others can help by donating, money, items, or time to the charity

Gather groups together

Create a list on Twitter for your charity and encourage your Twitter friends to join

Create a page on Facebook and invite your list of friends to the page

Encourage visitors to your blog to share their thoughts and ideas on how to help

Instead of asking for money:

People are more likely to want to help if you are not asking for money. Perhaps you know carpenters that would be willing to help make repairs. You may be able to enlist photographers to take photos you can post on your blog or website. If you have a friend that is a small business owner, you can get them to reach more people by posting flyers.

Using the Internet is a great way to reach thousands, maybe millions, of people. Some of those people will join you in your quest to help a worthwhile cause.
